Martín Montoya

Martín Montoya is a professional footballer, who currently plays for FC Barcelona, as a right back. He was born in Spain on 14 April, 1991. Montoya started playing football in his hometown, for the club CF Gava. From 1999 to 2009 he played for Barcelona (youth).

Montoya’s senior career started in 2009 when he debuted in the Barcelona B team. From 2011 he is an official player of the FC Barcelona. Montoya also played for Spanish national team. From 2008 to 2012, he played for Spain (U17-U23). From 2011 he plays for the Catalonia national football team.

In 2011 there were some rumors that Montoya should play for the Valencia CF. Apparently, Che wanted to pay €3 million buy-out clause. These were just rumors! Montoya debuted in a match between Barcelona and Real Sociedad. His team lost this match with a score 2-1. Montoya had an injury (broken clavicle) in the early minutes of the game. After this, he spent the biggest part of the 2011-2012 season as the reserve. On 12 January 2012 he debuted for the first team, in a match against CA Osasuna for the season's Copa del Rey. Barcelona won, with a score of 2-1. Montoya also played (due to injury of Dani Alves) in a match against Athletic Bilbao, in the finals of the domestic cup. The score was 3-0 for FC Barcelona.

During his career, he received honors (Barcelona): Copa del Rey: 2011–2012; Runner-up 2013-2014, La Liga: 2010–2011, 2012–2013 and Supercopa de Espana: 2013; Runner-up 2012; Spain U21, UEFA European Under-21 Championship: 2011 and 2013.
