Sports Illustrated names an award in Muhammad Ali’s honor

Muhammad Ali will always remain in the hearts and minds of his fans from all over the world. A professional boxer and a great personality, he continues to encourage young people to follow their dream no matter the obstacles. He was declared “Sportsman of the Century” and he won numerous titles during his career.

He started training at the age of 12, and he has been a leading figure for the Muslim community in America. He won the World Heavyweight Championship three times in a row. There was no boxer who could stand up to his strength and stamina. He proved on numerous occasions that he stood by his principles; one of the controversial moments was when he refused to join the military because of his religious beliefs.

Recently, another honor was brought to him. Sports Illustrated announced that they will dedicate the Sportsman Legacy Award to Muhammad Ali and it will be known as Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. This award is meant to be given to people who inspire the new generation through their extraordinary activities and career. Muhammad Ali accepted the honor with grace saying that Sports Illustrated played a very important role in his early years and career. He was featured on the cover of the magazine for the first time in 1963, and has been a constant presence since then.

On October 1, 2015, a ceremony took place in Louisville where the dedication became official. This is one of the many honors that Ali has received, and one of the greatest figures of America. His legacy will endure through this award.
