The sport of Tennis holds a very important position in the sports culture of the US. It is a racket sport, which has brought fame to the nation from a number of tournaments of international levels. In fact, the sport is so famous that an internationally acclaimed tournament known as The US Open is conducted in New York every fall. Tennis is played in the nation for all the five categories, viz. Singles and Doubles (Men and Ladies’) along with Mixed Doubles. However, the most favored one is the singles both men and women.
There is an association of tennis in America known as the USTA (United States Tennis Association). It is national governing body for the game of tennis in America. It has almost 700,000 members and is a non-profit organization. Any kind of income, which this association makes, is used to develop and promote tennis and its growth in the United States. It also helps professional as well as budding players. The main aim behind the creation of this association was to standardize the regulation and rules of the game in America.
The US has produced many stars in tennis since many years. They have brought not only success to their respective professional careers but also fame to their motherland. Some of the stars who have dominated the game in the past are Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Billie Jean King, Don Budge, Chris Evert and many more. The current ruling stars of tennis in America are the William sisters Serena and Venus and some others as well.
