Will Jason Garret’s contract be extended?

Will Jason Garret’s contract be extended?

Jason Garret – age 48 - has been with the Dallas Cowboys for seven years now holding different coaching positions: offensive coordinator (2007), assistant head coach (2008), interim head coach (2010) and finally full head coach since 2011. Now Garret is entering his eight year with the Cowboys which also happens to be the last one according to contract. The question now is: will his contract be extended or will he become a free agent?

Jerry Jones, the owner of the team, is known to wait until the season’s end to announce whether a contract is extended or not. He has done so with the last 3 head coaches of the Cowboys. This is sure to keep anyone in a state of unease, however Garret should not have anything to fear in light of his results and the team’s performance.

Jones stated that the Cowboys have been working with Jason Garret using the same contract from his first year. The piece of paper is short of becoming a Cowboy piece of memorabilia. Jones continued to say that he is very pleased with Garret’s performance over the last 3 years as head coach and with the direction the team is heading in.

Jones also appreciates Garret’s experience from which the players can and have benefited, he said that due to growing up in the ranks Garret has a better understanding of the team dynamic and the direction it is headed. Also Jones may reward Garret’s loyalty seeing how the coach was approached by different teams and refused to leave the Cowboys.
